PLAYER SAYS HE GREW UP A MANCHESTER UNITED FAN, EXPLAINS WHY

Tottenham Hotspur forward Son Heung-min has said on Pro-Direct Soccer that he grew up a Manchester United fan.

Son has said that he was a fan of United growing up because of Park Ji-sung.

Park was on the books of United from 2005 until 2012, and won the Premier League title on four occasions and the Champions League once.

Son – who cost Spurs £22 million in transfer fees in the summer of 2015, according to The Guardian – has said that he became a United fan because of his South Korean compatriot Park.

However, the 29-year-old South Korea international has said that he cannot support the Red Devils now.

Son said on Pro-Direct Soccer: “Manchester United because obviously Ji-Sung was playing. He is a national hero.” The Tottenham star added: “He was the first one who played in the Premier League, so I was supporting United, but I can’t now.”

Son is one of the best attacking players in the Premier League and is a key figure at Spurs.

The 29-year-old scores goals and creates chances for his teammates.

The Tottenham no.7 has scored two goals in three Premier League appearances so far this season.

Son scored 17 goals and gave 10 assists in the league last season, and scored 11 goals and gave 10 assists in the league in 2019-20.

For Spurs to have a successful season, Son will have to be on top of his form throughout.
