Thiago suffered a fresh injury scare as he hobbled off in Liverpool’s win against Crystal Palace with a calf issue and Jurgen Klopp was unable to give an immediate diagnosis on the issue

Jurgen Klopp watched on as Thiago was forced off in Liverpool’s win over Crystal Palace and hoped the issue “wasn’t too serious”.

The Reds boss was unable to give a lead time on the Spaniard’s recovery.

Thiago felt discomfort in his calf and had to be replaced by Naby Keita on the hour mark.

The former Bayern Munich man has struggled with injuries since arriving last summer but walked straight down the tunnel at Anfield on Saturday afternoon after being taken off.

Klopp said after the contest: “He felt his calf but we hope it is not too serious.”

The German is already having to work without Harvey Elliott, whose season may be over following a horrific injury at Leeds last weekend.

Thiago is yet to show his best form in England having been a serial winner during his time in Germany.

Klopp admitted that the 30-year-old endured a difficult start to life on Merseyside and has backed him to hit top gear.

“The start was not perfect because he came here, got COVID and got injured early,” said the Reds boss recently.

“Of course that makes everything a little more difficult. He showed what kind of a player he can and will be for us, so there is much more to come, of course.

“It is now a year, but if you want, it is actually only half a year because of all the things that happened; coming into a new club in the most difficult period of all our lives.

“He settled really well. His family is here and he is the middle of the team and is a really good character and personality, and obviously a world-class player. So all fine.”

Thiago’s forced departure on Saturday did little to stop Liverpool’s momentum as they eased past the Eagles.

Sadio Mane had opened the scoring before Mohamed Salah and Keita both scored in the final 12 minutes.

The Senegalese forward rewrote Premier League history as he struck his 100th goal in Red.

And after the contest he joked about taking on Palace on a more regular basis.

He told the BBC: “I am lucky to score so many goals against Palace. Most important thing was the three points.

“Right place, right time. I am lucky. And happy. Thank you to all the fans, club and staff. Without them I am nothing.
