Manchester United could be without Luke Shaw on Saturday when they host Everton at Old Trafford.

The Blues make the short trip from Merseyside to Manchester to take on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side with the knowledge that the Red Devils could be shorn of the services of a crucial player in their system.Shaw has been a standout performer during Solskjaer’s tenure so far, with his displays in red earning him a recall to the England squad, and he scored in the European Championship final during the summer.

However, he was taken off during the first half of Manchester United’s 1-0 loss to Aston Villa last weekend and missed their midweek Champions League win over Villarreal.

According to MEN journalist Samuel Luckhurst, writing via his personal Twitter profile on Friday, Shaw could be missing for tomorrow’s encounter with Everton.

“Wrote at start of the week Shaw was unwell during Villa,” he said.

“[I] Understand he could miss Everton tomorrow, too.”

— Samuel Luckhurst (@samuelluckhurst) October 1, 2021Big Blues boost? With Harry Maguire also looking unlikely to make Saturday’s game between two sides level on points in the Premier League, Rafa Benitez may well fancy his side’s chances to claim a rare victory against the Red Devils.

The Blues have won just once in their last 16 encounters, a 4-0 thumping at Goodison Park in 2019, but there is little to separate the teams at the moment, and Manchester United’s defensive vulnerability was laid bare on Wednesday as Villarreal winger Arnaut Danjuma tormented them throughout the 90-plus minutes.

With Demarai Gray in impressive form since signing from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer, the Blues have an attacker that can pose a considerable threat to the Red Devils backline with his pace and direct dribbling ability.

Gray may well look to attack the home side’s left-back on Saturday, likely to be Alex Telles if Shaw does not recover in time.

While Telles is a seasoned player on the continental stage, he is yet to truly convince in England, with his time in Manchester blighted by injury issues, and he is certainly a level down from Shaw at the moment.
