Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly readying a bid worth €80 million to swoop Karim Benzema away from Real Madrid next summer.
According to a report by Catalan outlet El Nacional, Karim Benzema is the subject of interest from Paris Saint-Germain over a potential move in next summer’s transfer window. The Ligue 1 giants are preparing an offer worth €80 million to tempt Real Madrid to cash in on their talisman.
Karim Benzema joined Real Madrid from Lyon in the summer of 2009 and has since blossomed into one of the best strikers of his generation. A key figure for Los Blancos pretty much since his arrival, the 33-year-old has been in tremendous form since the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo three years ago.
A talismanic figure for Real Madrid, Benzema has finished each of the last three seasons as their top scorer and has started 2021/22 strongly as well, with 11 goals and eight assists in just 13 outings across all competitions. Suffice to say, the French international can improve any squad in the world and therefore, it is not surprising that PSG are showing an interest in him.
PSG have been reported to be in the market for a striker keeping next summer’s transfer window in mind, with Erling Haaland, Sergio Aguero and Karim Adeyemi among those linked with the French heavyweights.
The eagerness to sign a striker is well-founded, with Mauro Icardi linked with a potential summer exit amid fresh links with Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United. More importantly, PSG are in a precarious position over the future of Kylian Mbappe, who seems to be running down his contract with the Ligue 1 giants.
Interestingly, Mbappe has been heavily linked with Real Madrid, who are reportedly preparing a bumper contract offer for the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner. And with Real Madrid also keen on signing Haaland, there is a suggestion in the report that Benzema could be offloaded, especially with PSG ready to offer €80 million for his services.
However, realistically speaking, selling Benzema might be out of the question for Real Madrid, seeing that he is currently their single-most important player. What now remains to be seen is if PSG indeed table an €80 million bid and if it manages to turn the Merengues’ head.
