A Chelsea bid of £35 million has been updated on this Manchester City forward; should Pep cash in?

Raheem Sterling, a forward for Manchester City, has reportedly received a £35 million transfer offer from Chelsea, according to a recent report from Manchester EVenning News. The English winger has been linked to various teams over the past month, but his future is still uncertain since Pep Guardiola is still hesitant to let him go and because Sterling wants to leave in pursuit of more consistent playing time.

In the offensive department, Sterling has put on a number of outstanding performances. Despite this, he hasn’t been able to crack Guardiola’s starting lineup. In 47 appearances for Man City last season in all competitions, the 27-year-old scored 17 goals and contributed nine assists.

Over the past seven years, the ex-Liverpool player has consistently produced for City. Based on his average of 1.9 shots, 1.4 critical passes, and 1.8 dribbles per game in the Premier League, he was effective in the previous season as well. After completing 85.4 percent of his passes in the English Premier League, Sterling was also efficient with the ball distribution in the opponent’s half (data via whoscored).

With the ball out in the wide zones, Sterling can make some passable runs by utilizing his speed and agility. Due to his ball control at the attacking end of the field, he can cut inside and perform some remarkable turns. He frequently has a strong finishing touch in front of the opposing goal and can make a few decisive passes into the penalty area to set up his teammates for simple goals.

Sterling will likely score more goals for the Blues’ offense and balance Chelsea’s front line. He is still adaptable enough to almost play everywhere along the frontline, making him a fantastic addition to Tuchel’s starting lineup.

At 27, Sterling is still in his prime and, should he chose to go, could have an immediate impact at Stamford Bridge.

Given that Manchester City has identified a solution for their number 9 area, Sterling’s future at the club is not promising. Foden is already preferred by Guardiola in Sterling’s preferred position, so the England international will likely see his game time cut back, endangering his ability to develop. Therefore, leaving would be the best course of action. Given that his contract expires the following season, Guardiola would be prudent to sell him this summer.
