Man City given Raheem Sterling warning ahead of £50m Chelsea transfer links

Man City have been warned that selling Raheem Sterling to Chelsea could come back to haunt them.

That is the view of former City goalkeeper Shay Given who gave talkSPORT his verdict on the links between the England winger and the Blues.

Chelsea are reportedly preparing a £50million bid for Sterling and manager Pep Guardiola is prepared to let him leave.

He has just one year left on his contract and would also give City the chance to balance the books to bring in other names.

Sterling has been a favourite of Guardiola’s, having been just one of three players to score 100 goals for him – the other two being Lionel Messi and Sergio Aguero.

The winger has also played more games for the Spaniard than any other player, but he has not been starting as regularly as he would have liked over the last season.

Given believes the move would be a good fit for both clubs, but warned that selling to another Premier League side presents its dangers.

He told talkSPORT Breakfast: “He’s a top player, but for whatever reason in the last 12 or 18 months him and Pep, have not fallen out, but he’s just not started every game.
