Man City transfer news: De Bruyne replacement named as Silva saga takes another twist

Bernardo Silva’s future is still up in the air, and he still wants to join Barcelona, while City has been linked with a PSG star as a replacement.

Pep Guardiola has overhauled his squad at Manchester City, signing Erling Haaland and Kalvin Phillips while selling Raheem Sterling, Gabriel Jesus, and Oleksandr Zinchenko.

The city suffered a rare setback in the transfer market when they lost Marc Cucurella to rival Chelsea after refusing to pay Brighton’s £60 million asking price, instead offering £30 million. They’ve completed the majority of their major signings, and the focus is now on who might be leaving the Etihad.

Barcelona is still interested in City midfielder Bernardo Silva, and Mirror Sport has an update on the midfielder as well as a roundup of the rest of the club’s transfer news, rumors, and gossip.

Bernardo quit claim quashed

Reports emerged on Tuesday morning that Bernardo still wants to quit Manchester City for Barcelona. Guardiola has steadfastly refused to sell Bernardo to Barca and the Catalan giants will struggle to finance the deal without offloading a reluctant Frenkie de Jong to Manchester United. It is understood Barcelona have not given up all hope on landing the Portugal star and Spanish journalist Alvaro Montero told Sky Sports: “Inside the club, there are a few voices that say it is possible; economically is it possible, and they answer ‘yes’. From my point of view, it is almost mandatory to see a player like Frenkie de Jong leave so Bernardo Silva could arrive, but they say that is not a problem. It is a tricky situation for sure.” Despite the rumours, it is understood City’s stance has not changed; they are looking to keep hold of their midfielder this summer.

De Bruyne replacement

According to Footballfancast, Manchester City can sign Lucas Paqueta from Lyon for £68 million as a long-term replacement for Kevin De Bruyne. De Bruyne is 31 years old, and according to the report, Paqueta, 24, is the ideal candidate to take over City’s playmaking duties. In 186 appearances for Flamengo, AC Milan, and Lyon, the Brazilian star has 34 goals and 21 assists. He is available for £68 million and is said to have the qualities to succeed De Bruyne at the Etihad in the long term.

Veratti interest

According to the Manchester Evening News, City could sign Paris Saint-Germain playmaker Marco Verratti. According to reports, City could make a move for Verratti if Barcelona is successful in luring Bernardo away from the Etihad. He claims City has identified the midfielder, who helped Italy win Euro 2020 last year, as a possible replacement. Verratti is an accomplished and experienced performer who could fit in immediately at City if he is signed.
