The MCC Foundation and the Ruth Strauss Foundation will each receive an equal share of the proceeds, the MCC Foundation confirmed.
Tickets for the fifth day of the Lord’s Test between England and South Africa will be available for £5, should the match go that far.
The MCC confirmed that all proceeds would be considered donations, split equally between the Ruth Strauss Foundation and the MCC Foundation.
Tickets for Sunday, August 21, will go on sale from 2 pm on Wednesday via the Lord’s website, with an option for a donation refund in the event of no play on the fifth day.
The pricing strategy at Lord’s was widely criticized ahead of the Test series earlier in the summer between England and New Zealand, with Ben Stokes calling for a review at the time.
Subsequently, Trent Bridge, Edgbaston, and Headingley all offered free tickets for day-five finishes, resulting in packed houses for England’s thrilling run-chases against both New Zealand and India.
“We are thrilled to be able to further support two charities that are close to our heart, and we hope this gesture encourages many supporters to experience international cricket at Lord’s, said Guy Lavender, the MCC chief executive, and secretary.
“We believe this commitment to a charitable donation will ensure a strong crowd for a final day to support these two great cricketing nations. We look forward to welcoming all spectators to the Home of Cricket.”
With the weather forecast poor for Wednesday and thunderstorms predicted, the likelihood of a day-five finish has increased.
On the Test’s second day, Lord is primed to turn Red for Ruth to support the charity set up by Andrew Strauss in memory of his late wife, raising money to support families facing the death of a parent.
The MCC Foundation, the club’s charitable arm, delivers projects across the UK, as well as in countries such as Nepal and Lebanon.
