Conte has four injury concerns for Tottenham’s Champions League match against Sporting CP.

Spurs can qualify for the Champions League knockout stages with a win, but they will have to do so without Richarlison and Kulusevski.

Antonio Conte and Tottenham Hotspur have had a difficult week, suffering back-to-back defeats for only the second time since his arrival at the club in November 2021. Spurs, on the other hand, can lift some of the gloom surrounding the club with a Champions League win over Sporting Lisbon on Wednesday, which would secure qualification to the knockout stages.

Spurs currently lead Group D with seven points, while their opponents are just one point behind in third place. Sporting defeated Spurs 2-0 in the reverse fixture, but the Portuguese side has since lost both games to Marseille, while Spurs has picked up four points from two games against Eintracht Frankfurt.

Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has hosted both of Spurs’ Champions League victories this season, and ABC News FiveThirtyEight, which uses an algorithm to predict teams’ chances in various sports fixtures, believes Spurs can make it three from three on home soil.

According to the algorithm, Spurs have a 56% chance of winning, with a Sporting win at 20% and the chance of a draw at 24%. Despite the high likelihood, provided by the algorithm, of Spurs reaching the knockout stages, the chances of Spurs reaching the Champions League final is listed at 6% while actually winning the competition sits at 2%.

Spurs vs Sporting team news

It is unlikely that the pool of players Conte chooses from has changed from this past weekend’s game against Newcastle. Influential attackers Dejan Kulusevski and Richarlison are both unavailable while Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Cristian Romero are huge doubts for the fixture after missing Sunday’s game through fatigue.

Speaking in his Sporting Lisbon pre-match press conference Conte said: “Romero and Hojbjerg, tomorrow morning we will see (if they can play). If there is a possibility for them to recover we will try everything because it’s an important game for us.”
