Carragher describes a player who left Tottenham in 2021 as “one of the greatest” ahead of the World Cup.

Jamie Carragher thinks former Tottenham Hotspur forward Gareth Bale will go down as ‘one of the greatest British players of all time’ ahead of his possible World Cup bow with Wales.

The 33-year-old will line up for Wales at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and Carragher thinks this could be his last-ever race for the Welsh, as he labeled the player that left Tottenham in 2021 as ‘special’.

Rob Page’s side is in the same group as England and the two home nations will lock horns in the final game of Group B on November 29.

That game could have a special meaning because it could be Bale’s final match for Wales or even the final of his career, that’s if his nation is knocked out and he opts to hang up his boots.

But with the USA and Iran the other teams in Wales and England’s group, Carragher thinks it will be the US that will progress alongside Gareth Southgate’s side, as he told Sky Sports Premier League (13/11/22 at 7:55 pm).

“I just think of the two special players they have had in the last couple of tournaments in Bale and Ramsey,” said Carragher. “It’s maybe the last time we see them in a Welsh shirt and both have done fantastically well.

“I think Gareth Bale what he has done in his career. I think when he finishes his career, he will go down as one of the greatest British players of all time.

“The Champions League. Player of the Year two or three times in England. What he has done for Wales and taking them to tournaments.

“I just think of the actual energy. I just keep thinking of the American team, the young players, and the intensity they will play at. I just think it will be too much for Wales.”

CAN BALE AND WALES CAUSE A SHOCK?

Wales will open their World Cup campaign against the USA and the result of that match could have a huge bearing on what happens for the rest of that group.

England will be the favorite to progress given their strength, it’s just a case of who follows suit.

That could be an early marker for either the Welsh or the Americans, who will feel that if they can reach the knockout stages, then they can cause a few upsets.
