Newcastle is interested in Tottenham’s transfer of a Leicester City player.

The January transfer window will be looming on the horizon once the Leicester City attacking midfielder returns from representing England at the World Cup when the Premier League resumes

Tottenham Hotspur has a “long-held interest” in Leicester City midfielder James Maddison, according to our colleagues at football. London.

Maddison has been in fine form for City over the last several months, which has attracted significant interest from elsewhere in the Premier League with Newcastle United most notably seeing two bids turned down by the club during the summer transfer window. Spurs were also linked with the player during that period, though such rumors were “strenuously denied” by those inside the club.

The England international is currently recovering from the minor knee injury that saw him miss out on featuring in the opening group game against Iran, in which the Three Lions ran out 6-2 winners to take an early lead in Group B. It is also just six weeks until the January transfer window opens, but an exit for Maddison would be a surprise at this stage of the season.

football. london’s Tottenham correspondent Alasdair Gold believes it would take an “astronomical bid” for any move to take place. “Spurs have had a long-held interest in Maddison, although those within the club strenuously denied any links to him during the summer,” the reporter says. “He still has 18 months left on his contract, so I don’t think he would come with a particularly reduced price tag in January.

“I think he’d be superb at Spurs if he wanted to come, but I’d be surprised if Leicester let him go after the World Cup without an astronomical bid. Next summer, if he hasn’t signed a new contract, seems the more logical time for him to move on.”
