Your Tottenham Hotspur morning digest is on Wednesday, November 23.

Tottenham ‘offered’ Edouard Mendy

Tottenham has been offered the chance to sign Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy, according to reports.

With a succession plan needed for 35-year-old Hugo Lloris, 90min reports that Spurs could now sign Senegal international Mendy from London rivals Chelsea. Mendy has fallen down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge following Graham Potter’s arrival, which has seen the re-emergence of Kepa Arrizabalaga.

This has led to reports linking the former Rennes goalkeeper with a move away from west London, and Tottenham could indeed be his next destination.

Last year, Lionel Messi labeled Tottenham star Cristian Romero as ‘extraordinary’ following Argentina’s Copa America glory. But, following the defender’s shaky display in his nation’s World Cup opener against Saudi Arabia, the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner’s admission has come back to bite him.

Argentina conceded two goals in seven minutes in what was a shock turnaround after the South American champions looked set to cruise to victory. Lionel Scaloni’s side had three goals ruled out due to offside in the first half, with frontmen Messi and Lautaro Martinez leading the line to excellent effect.

But the Saudis launched out of the blocks and clambered ahead amid a defensive horror show put on by Romero and former Manchester City defender Nicolas Otamendi. Things improved after Manchester United center-half Lisandro Martinez came on for Romero but by then the damage had been done.

Harry Kane injury update

Tottenham striker Harry Kane was seen limping through the mixed zone with strapping around his right ankle after England’s win against Iran on Monday.

As Gareth Southgate’s side recover from the clash with the USA on Friday, Kane did not train on Tuesday as the players that started the win over Iran were left indoors to complete the recovery whilst the remaining 13 players took to the field.

It’s expected that the 11 starters will join the rest of the camp in training on Wednesday as preparation intensifies for their second group game.
