Leicester City transfer news: £22 million man linked as January move talks’very advanced’

Leicester City’s latest transfer news as the club prepares for the upcoming January transfer window.

Leicester City will be busier than usual in the upcoming January transfer window as the club looks to climb the Premier League table.

A slow summer window saw City wait until deadline day to make their one and only outfield signing of the off-season. Centre-back Wout Faes joined from French side Reims in a £15 million, with the Belgian coming in as a replacement for Wesley Fofana.

Faes’ arrival has had a massive impact on the team, with him quickly becoming a fan favourite at the King Power Stadium. It is hoped that any January arrivals would have a similar impact.

City have already been linked with some potential targets ahead of the window opening at the start of next year. With that in mind, here is a round-up of the latest news and rumours.

Talks between Leicester City and Torino over a possible January transfer of Dennis Praet are at a ‘very advanced’ stage, according to reports in Italy.

The midfielder returned to City in the summer after spending last season on loan with Torino. The Serie A side were keen for the player to return to the club in the close season but were unable to agree a deal with City.

According to Tuttosport (via Toro News ), talks have already opened between the two clubs and are at a ‘very advanced’ stage. The Serie A club are said to be proposing a loan deal with an obligation to buy at the end of the season. It is though said that the price that Torino will pay will ‘not exceed’ €6-7 million (£5.2-6 million).

£22m man ‘liked’ by City

Leicester City have again been credited with an interest in Inter Milan full-back Robin Gosens ahead of the January transfer window.

One area that is expected to be a priority for City during the window is left-back. An Achilles injury to James Justin in the Carabao Cup third round against Newport County left City with just Luke Thomas as the only fit, recognised player in that position.

Gosens is a name that has previously been linked with City, and it seems that they could now be reviving their interest. Calciomercato.it claims that the player is ‘liked’ by City with Inter open to selling the player when the window opens.

Tielemans questioned on City future

Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans has admitted that his future at the football club “doesn’t change anything” and isn’t something he is thinking about while away at the World Cup with Belgium.

The 25-year-old has just over seven months remaining on his contract at the King Power Stadium , with the January transfer window opening in six weeks’ time.

As quoted in the Belgian daily newspaper Le Soir , translated from French, Tielemans says: “My future at the club doesn’t change anything. I don’t think about that right now. I just try to be the best footballer possible here and help the national team as much as possible.”

Tottenham Maddison interest

Tottenham Hotspur have a “long-held interest” in Leicester City midfielder James Maddison, according to our colleagues at football.london .

But, Tottenham correspondent Alasdair Gold believes it would take an “astronomical bid” for any move to take place. “Spurs have had a long-held interest in Maddison, although those within the club strenuously denied any links to him during the summer,” the reporter says. “He still has 18 months left on his contract, so I don’t think he would come with a particularly reduced price tag in January.”
