Shock A new £300 billion bidder emerges in the Man United takeover battle.

Apple has been linked with a shock takeover bid for Manchester United.

The technology giants have, according to the Daily Star, expressed an interest in buying United and are now weighing up a formal offer.

United was put up for sale on Tuesday by the Glazer family, who said they would “explore strategic alternatives”.

The Raine Group, who was involved in the sale of Chelsea, is acting as United’s exclusive financial advisor and Latham & Watkins LLP is legal counsel. Rothschild and Co. are acting as exclusive financial advisors to the Glazer family shareholders.

There is likely to be significant interest in buying United, with one of the UK’s richest men, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, someone who has previously shown an interest in running his boyhood club.

Tech giants Apple would be a shock bidder but, with an annual reported revenue of over £ 300 billion, the company has the financial clout to mount a serious takeover.
