Tottenham manager Antonio Conte is a big fan of Everton midfielder Anthony Gordon and is keeping an eye on him, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.
When domestic football resumes after the World Cup, the Spurs manager will look to add to his squad as they compete in both the Premier League and the Champions League.
What is the latest with Anthony Gordon?
The Everton forward’s future remains one of speculation ahead of the January transfer window. The Toffees are keen to offer the 21-year-old a new contract, but talks have stalled according to The Sun.
Everton wants to tie down Gordon to a new £100,000 deal and has slapped a £60 million price tag on his head in a bid to warn off possible suitors for the England Under-21 star.
Chelsea was heavily interested in recruiting Gordon in the summer and reportedly had several bids turned down for the forward.
Tottenham was also keen on the player and he remains on the radar of the north London club ahead of the January transfer window.
What does Pete O’Rourke say about Conte’s opinion of Gordon?
O’Rourke believes Tottenham is still very interested in signing Gordon and he is a player Conte would like at the club.
O’Rourke told GIVEMESPORT: “Conte is a big fan of him. Not just what he offers in the final third, but also his work ethic. He’s a very hard-working attacker as well. It’s a deal that would be hard to do in January, because of the price tag, but it’s a deal that they’re definitely looking at and they will continue to keep tabs on him as long as he doesn’t sign a new contract at Everton.”
Should Tottenham sign Gordon in January?
Conte has already hinted that he believes his squad will need strengthening if they are to compete both domestically and in Europe.
That focus is believed to be on the Tottenham back four, with a move for Inter’s Stefen De Vrij reported as an option for Spurs. However, there remains a need for another attacking option, with James Maddison a name that has also been linked with the club.
Gordon has played 15 times for Everton this season, scoring three times, and would add competition to a Spurs attack that already has Dejan Kulusevski and Son Heung-min as their main attacking wide options.
The Italian also has Richarlison and Lucas Moura as other alternatives, but adding Gordon would only increase the firepower at Conte’s disposal.
