Leicester City and AC Milan receive defender transfer update as £13m claim made

The latest Leicester City transfer news includes an update on a potential City move for Benfica defender Morato.

According to reports, Benfica is willing to sell one-time Leicester City target Morato as they look to offload a glut of defenders at the club.

The 21-year-old was linked with a move to the King Power Stadium last summer, but a deal fell through, and the club instead signed Wout Faes from Stade Reims.

Brazil-based journalist André Hernan has claimed City was not the only club interested in Morato, with Italian champions Milan also said to have “showed interest in the last window”. And French side Rennes went as far as tabling three offers for the player, the final one worth €15 million (£13m), all of which were rejected by Benfica.

However, despite their reluctance to part ways with the Brazilian central defender in the last window, Benfica is now said to be open to offers as they look to streamline their squad.

According to Portuguese outlet Jornal de Notícias via Sport Witness, Roger Schmidt’s side has “too many” defenders and could look to move on both Morato and John Brooks in the January window.
