‘Very good player,’ says Romano of Tottenham’s upcoming £34 million signing.

According to Fabrizio Romano of the Here We Go podcast, Tottenham Hotspur will hold negotiations this month regarding a potential summer signing for Piero Hincapie.

Hincapie is not a new face on the Spurs’ radar. This season, he has been particularly impressive for Bayer Leverkusen.

Tottenham is interested in signing the 21-year-old, according to Sky journalist Dharmesh Sheth, who told Chris Cowlin on Tuesday. Spurs presently have no plans to extend Clement Lenglet’s loan from Barcelona.

According to Romano, the Spurs are due to meet with Hincapie.
And it appears that Fabio Paratici is already planning to make a summer move for the kid.

Romano has now suggested that Tottenham will hold talks over a potential deal for Hincapie imminently in the hope of paving the way for a move at the end of the season.

“They will have some talks for Piero Hincapie, the center-back of Bayer Leverkusen, Ecuadorian player, very good player,” he told the Here We Go podcast.

“He is also appreciated by Italian clubs. But Tottenham will have some conversations now with the idea of signing him in the summer. So Hincapie is also on Tottenham’s list.”

Hincapie’s potential appears to be somewhat frightening. He is already one of the best defenders on the ball in one of Europe’s top five leagues.

FBRef names Cristian Romero as one of the players most similar to Hincapie. And Tottenham fans would certainly be delighted if they managed to bring him to North London and he turned out to be as influential as the Argentinian.

He will not come cheap. Previous reports from The Sun have suggested that he will cost around £34 million. And his value may well increase by the time the summer arrives.

But if he lives up to expectations, he would certainly be worth the money in the years to come.
