‘Spurs are currently in contact,’ according to Romano, who claims Tottenham is working hard to sign the ‘ideal’ player.

In recent weeks, Tottenham Hotspur have been prominently associated with Pedro Porro.

Spurs manager Antonio Conte is allegedly aiming to add a right winger to his squad.

Tottenham currently has Emerson Royal, Matt Doherty, and Djed Spence at that position.

Emerson and Doherty have both done well at times, but there are certainly upgrades available.

Meanwhile, Spence is a top talent, but Conte seemingly doesn’t think he’s first-team ready just yet.

Porro is said to be Tottenham’s key target in that position, and Spurs have reportedly been in talks over him.

Fabrizio Romano has now issued a fresh update on Tottenham’s pursuit of the player.

“More on Pedro Porro,” the transfer insider wrote on Twitter today.

“Can confirm again he’s Tottenham priority as new right-back, as reported last week.

“Spurs are now in contact with Sporting via intermediaries to discuss and find a way for January move.

“Sporting have been clear: €45m clause or Porro will stay.”

Spurs must deal with hardball Sporting and rival suitors

Romano previously said that Tottenham ‘love’ Porro and feel his style of play is ‘perfect’ for Conte.

However, Tottenham aren’t the only club apparently in pursuit of the Spaniard.

The likes of Chelsea and Juventus have also reportedly been looking at Porro in recent days.

Clearly it shows that Porro is a top talent who could do a job for the best clubs in Europe.

At the same time, it remains to be seen whether Spurs are willing to pay £40million plus for him.

That said, Tottenham certainly do need to bolster their ranks at right wing-back.

The wing-backs are crucial to Conte’s system, so it’s important that they are of the appropriate quality.

Tottenham have a lot of potential but have been struggling this term, so they need to put it right.

Porro would go some way to increasing the quality at right wing-back.
