Tottenham has reached a ‘in principle agreement’ with the League Champion, with financial negotiations ongoing.

Italian journalist Rudy Galetti claims Tottenham has an ‘agreement in principle’ with Sporting Lisbon right-back Pedro Porro – but the Portuguese club is insistent that if the Spanish defender is to go, it must be for his release clause.

Porro, 23, has been superb for Sporting. Joining the club initially on loan from Manchester City in 2020, he remained on loan there until the summer. Ruben Amorim’s side won the Liga NOS title last season. He joined permanently after.

Playing against Spurs in the Champions League, Porro impressed. So much so, that during commentary of the game at Tottenham’s home stadium – Jermaine Jenas told commentary on BT Sport that Spurs should consider signing him.

Porro has 12 goal involvements in 22 games this season, scoring two and creating ten more. Many websites connect Spurs and Porro. According to Galetti, Spurs, like many others, will have to pay his £40 million exit clause.

However, he does report that Spurs have an ‘agreement in principle’ with the player himself. Details of a wage, or the length of a contract is unclear. But it is certainly a boost in their move for Porro – with that side of the deal done.

GALETTI: TOTTENHAM HAS AN AGREEMENT IN PRINCIPLE WITH PORRO, THE FEE IS NOT AGREED

Porro would be a superb bit of business. The spurs need a new option in that position. Emerson Royal has been poor since he joined Spurs – and Inter Live says the club is willing to sell, for £21.5m. Matt Doherty is in and out of the starting XI.

Djed Spence is likely to go out on loan. Basically, the Spurs need a much better option on the right and Porro is just that. Judging by his outings against the Spurs, he would be a huge upgrade. Can the Spurs agree on a fee? They may have to pay up.
