According to reports, a player earning £70,000 per week is in talks to become the next player to leave Newcastle after Chris Wood.

Jonjo Shelvey is reportedly in talks to leave Newcastle United this month.

That is according to multiple outlets in Turkey, who claim that the 30-year-old has been in discussions regarding a move to Besiktas.

Spor Arena state that Senol Gunes’ side has held positive talks with the midfielder about joining the Super Lig club. Meanwhile, Fanatik has claimed the same, also writing on Friday that initial talks were positive.

This comes just days after Shelvey was first linked with a move away from St James’ Park. Fotomac was the first outlet to report interest from Besiktas, claiming that they could pay £ 3.1 million to sign the Magpies’ number eight.

At this moment in time, there have been no reports in England claiming that Shelvey, who reportedly earns £ 70,000 a week on Tyneside, could be on the move. He is currently out of action with a groin problem, forcing Newcastle to search for a replacement.

It was claimed on Boxing Day that he could be out for as long as eight weeks, but rumors in Turkey suggest that he might actually never play for Eddie Howe’s side again.

If that does prove to be the case, he would be the second major departure from St James’ Park this month.

Jonjo Shelvey linked with Newcastle exit as Chris Wood’s departure looms

While rumors surrounding Shelvey are just that at this stage, Chris Wood’s exit is all but official.

Ahead of the game against Crystal Palace, Howe confirmed to the press that the 31-year-old is having a medical ahead of his loan move to Nottingham Forest.

The deal reportedly includes an obligation to buy if certain terms are met, which would see Wood permanently join Forest for £ 15 million.

It is a shock to see him leave the club so swiftly, having only just joined a year ago. It will now be up to Dan Ashworth to find a replacement, as his departure will leave the Magpies light in attack.

And the same goes for Shelvey. His injury already leaves Newcastle short of midfield options, with the club currently looking to bring someone in.

However, that is currently proving to be difficult. Therefore, it would be strange to see Shelvey sold without the guarantee of a replacement.
