Aston Villa suffers a transfer blow as a €30 million target ‘accepts’ Leeds United’s offer.

The latest transfer news from Aston Villa, as Leeds close in on a deal for the Juventus star that Unai Emery desired.

Aston Villa is set to miss out on Juventus midfielder Weston McKennie after Leeds United came to an agreement with the player ahead of a possible transfer.

The US international has long been linked with a move to Villa, who reportedly made contact with him in a bid to convince him to join the club. Their efforts were in vain, however, as he rejected their overtures.

It emerged this week that Leeds subsequently made contact with Juventus with a view to signing McKennie themselves. The Yorkshire outfit has now gone one step closer to making a deal happen, with transfer expert Fabrizio Romano claiming that the 24-year-old has “accepted” a contract proposal.

Leeds and Juventus will now enter a “new round of talks” to discuss the terms of the transfer, meaning Aston Villa will have to look elsewhere to bolster their midfield options. The club has also been looking at reuniting Unai Emery with former Arsenal man Mattéo Guendouzi, who currently plays for Marseille.

Italian media reports claim that Juventus want up to €30m (£26.5m) for McKennie, although it is unlikely the final transfer fee will come to that amount.
