“I’m sure,” Fabrizio Romano says of Villa making a “surprising” move before the deadline.

Aston Villa could look to complete a surprising deal before the winter window closes Villa Park, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano.

Unai Emery, who took over as Villans manager in October, may look to bolster his squad with the transfer deadline approaching.

January transfer targets for Aston Villa
Villa is interested in signing Marseille central midfielder Matteo Guendouzi, according to Football Insider.

According to the report, Emery has identified the former Arsenal man, who is valued at £30 million, as one of his top targets.

Alex Crook, a respected talkSPORT reporter, recently told GiveMeSport that Guendouzi would like to return to England.

Hakim Ziyech is another name on Villa’s radar, but a deal may be difficult to come by because Chelsea would rather sell the winger to Roma than a Premier League rival.

Meanwhile, the Midlands club has begun talks with Moussa Dembele’s representatives, who has entered the final six months of his £52,000-per-week contract at Lyon.

What did Fabrizio Romano have to say about Villa?
Romano has refused to rule out the possibility of Villa returning to the transfer market before the deadline.

The dependable journalist believes the club’s hierarchy will back Emery if he is desperate to bring in more reinforcements.

“Let’s see if Aston Villa will go for something surprising,” Romano told GiveMeSport. I’m sure they’ll try to support Unai Emery.”

According to Sky Sports, Villa paid £13.3 million to complete the signing of left-back Alex Moreno from La Liga club Real Betis.

Emery has also strengthened his attacking options with the £18 million signing of Jhon Duran from Major League Soccer club Chicago Fire.

The Colombian will help to fill the void left by Danny Ings, who moved to West Ham United for a fee of £15 million earlier this month.

Frederic Guilbert joined Strasbourg just days after it was revealed that his Villa contract was about to be terminated.

Morgan Sanson has gone on loan to the same French club, Cameron Archer will finish the season with Middlesbrough and Jan Bednarek has returned to Southampton.

Villa has averaged 1.78 points per game since Emery took over as manager, but additional reinforcements could help his side challenge for a European qualification spot just months after struggling under Steven Gerrard.
