Late Leicester transfer fails as player is forced to stay; £15 million replacement deal already agreed.

Caglar Soyuncu, a defender for Leicester City, will not leave the club on deadline day, but the Foxes have already agreed to sign a replacement.

Soyuncu has made only a few appearances for Leicester this season. He has only appeared in three games across all competitions, with only one of them coming in the Premier League.

The center-back has been out with a knee injury. However, his lack of game time is mostly due to Brendan Rodgers’ lack of trust in him.

Instead, the Leicester boss prefers to use Wout Faes and Jonny Evans in the center of defense. Amid Evans’ injury, Rodgers has decided to go with Daniel Amartey alongside Faes rather than Soyuncu or Jannik Vestergaard.

Due to the situation, Soyuncu has been tipped to leave Leicester in the winter window. Atletico Madrid appears to be his most likely next club.

However, the Turk will be remaining in the King’s Power for the rest of the season. As per Fabrizio Romano, he will not be moving to Atleti on the transfer deadline day.

 

There is no way the Spanish side can land Soyuncu without breaking the La Liga salary cap rules. Due to this, Soyuncu has been forced to stay put.

He will eventually get his transfer, though. Romano adds that he is expected to join Atleti on a free transfer in the summer, which is when his Leicester contract expires.

There has also been some talk regarding Vestergaard. Like Soyuncu, it would make sense for him to leave Leicester so he can become a regular first-team player elsewhere.

According to Sky Sports journalist Rob Dorsett, Leicester agreed on a deal with Hertha Berlin for Vestergaard. But he has turned down the chance to join the German Bundesliga club.

Dorsett claims there will be other options for Vestergaard before the transfer window closes, so this is certainly one to keep an eye on.

Leicester was clearly expecting one of Soyuncu or Vestergaard to move on as they have brought in a center-back replacement. BBC Sport reveals there is a £20m agreement between Leicester and Stoke for Australia defender Harry Souttar.

His move to the East Midlands will cost Leicester an initial £15m, though it could rise to £20m through add-ons. Due to a sell-on clause Dundee United possess, they will receive £3m of the fee.

Meanwhile, Romano has clarified the situation regarding Leeds winger Jack Harrison amid interest from Leicester.
