Erik ten Hag explains why Manchester United’s star player did not play against Leicester.

Manchester United captain Harry Maguire was ruled out of the game against Leicester City due to injury.

Manchester United continued their march this afternoon, winning 3-0 at home against Leicester City in a game that was far from easy for the Old Trafford club.

Marcus Rashford was the man of the match once more, continuing his hot streak in front of the goal. But it was a true team effort, with United playing well as a unit.

Ten Hag is a manager who doesn’t rotate many players, though Victor Lindelof did replace Raphael Varane in the starting lineup. When Harry Maguire was not named to the squad, eyebrows were raised. Now we know why…

The gaffer explained the absence of the United star for this one, confirming that Maguire has actually picked up an injury. The severity of which isn’t yet known…

According to the Daily Mail, the Englishman is suffering from a knee injury, despite the fact that he is still the official club captain.

Knee injuries can range in severity, so we’ll have to wait and see until we get some official word on Maguire – though obviously, we’d all prefer it if he was fit and available, especially with Ten Hag consistently rotating Varane.

Lindelof performed admirably in his absence today, though the Swede isn’t someone who can be relied on a game-by-game basis.

In terms of Maguire, I don’t think it’s unfair to say his future at the club is uncertain. He’s been pushed out of the starting lineup when everyone else is fully fit and firing a man with his ambition will not be satisfactory with that.
