7 brilliant stats to prove Liverpool aren’t finished: Salah, Nunez, clean sheets

Liverpool’s 7-0 thrashing of Manchester United is the latest result to give club supporters renewed hope following a difficult 2022-23 season.

The Reds began the season hoping to repeat their Quadruple-threatening exploits from the previous season, but they quickly fell behind Premier League pacesetters Arsenal and Manchester City.

Neither domestic cup competition provided much solace, and they’ll travel to Real Madrid for the second leg of the Champions League last-16, needing a miracle to overcome a three-goal deficit from the reverse fixture.

Despite this, recent weeks have offered cause for optimism and we’ve collected together seven essential stats that suggest Liverpool may have turned the corner following a challenging winter.

– Liverpool’s 7-0 win over Manchester United was the biggest victory recorded in the fixture since it was first played in 1895. It also came just a week after United had won this season’s first piece of silverware.

– Jurgen Klopp’s side has now kept five consecutive Premier League clean sheets, stretching back to the start of February, scoring 13 goals in that time span.

– And only Brentford has a longer unbeaten run in the competition. Liverpool is rediscovering their form at the perfect time.

– The 7-0 rout of United was the first time Cody Gakpo, Darwin Nunez, and Mohamed Salah all scored for Liverpool in the same game.

– With his two goals and two assists, Salah became the first player in Europe’s top five divisions to score 20+ goals and provide 10+ assists across all competitions in 2022-23.

– The Reds have won as many Premier League games in March (two) as they have managed in any other single month so far this season. They achieved that milestone in just five days.

– Only Arsenal, Manchester City, and Manchester United have won more Premier League points since the World Cup than Liverpool. Imagine how many they’d secure when they iron out those inconsistencies…
