Report: ‘Top-class’ player tells his club he wants to leave, could join Tottenham

David Raya has told Brentford that he wants to leave, with Antonio Conte’s Tottenham Hotspur interested in signing the goalkeeper in the summer transfer window, according to journalist Graeme Bailey in TEAMtalk.

DAVID RAYA WANTS BRENTFORD TO EXIT AMID TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR’S INTEREST

The journalist has reported that Tottenham wants to sign Raya from London and Premier League rivals Brentford in the summer transfer window.

The goalkeeper has reportedly told the Bees that he wants to leave in the summer of 2023.

And Raya’s entourage believes that Tottenham could make a bid for the 27-year-old Spain international, described as “a top-class goalkeeper” by former Liverpool and Manchester United striker Michael Owen on Premier League Productions (06/03/23 at 7:35 pm).

“David Raya has made it clear to Brentford that he will not sign a new contract and wants to leave,” said Bailey.

“I am told there is a major disappointment within the corridors of power at the GTech, but it is not done and dusted.

“They will allow him to leave, though only if the price is right. I don’t know if that is analytics-based or not, it could be, but Brentford would be open to keeping him and seeing him leave for free in 2024.

“Brentford will not be allowing Raya to just leave unless they get a significant fee.

“Raya’s people remain confident that the interest in him will see a bid come in from a big club. They believe he is very high on Tottenham’s wish list to replace Hugo Lloris.”

HITC VERDICT: 2023 SUMMER TRANSFER POSSIBLE

In our view, it is very much possible that Tottenham Hotspur will be able to sign David Raya from Brentford in the summer transfer window.

That the Spaniard himself wants to leave knowing that Spurs are keen on him is hugely encouraging for Tottenham.

It suggests that if Tottenham is willing to pay what Brentford want for Raya, then they will be able to bring the Spaniard to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Now, the big question is whether Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy will pay the transfer fee that Brentford will want for Raya.
