Exclusive: £100,000-a-week Leeds star threatening to quit

Leeds United top scorer Rodrigo Moreno will seek an exit if the club is relegated this season, sources have told Football Insider.

The 32-year-old has enjoyed his most prolific season in English football this term – but his goals have not been enough to stave off the threat of a potential drop to the Championship.

Rodrigo, who joined the Whites from Valencia in 2020, will have just 12 months remaining on his Leeds contract in June.

Football Insider revealed on Monday (27 March) that the Spain international will have to take a pay cut to renew his deal – even if the Yorkshire side preserves their Premier League status.

Rodrigo is currently earning a reported wage of £ 100,000 a week and hasn’t renewed his deal since joining Leeds three years ago.

The forward has been Leeds’ most prolific player despite his limited involvement this term – with an ankle injury ruling him out of the starting lineup for each of their last eight Premier League games.

He has netted 13 goals in 24 appearances across all competitions so far in the 2022-23 campaign – already his best season in English football.

But despite his form, Leeds remains in danger of returning to the Championship for the first time since 2020.

Javi Gracia’s side is up to 14th in the table after victory against Wolves earlier this month (18 March) – but still sits just two points clear of the drop zone with 11 games remaining.

The Whites face league leaders Arsenal on Saturday (1 April) before home clashes against relegation rivals Nottingham Forest (4 April) and Crystal Palace (9 April).
