Alasdair Gold says Tottenham Hotspur 26-year-old talented midfielder is likely to be part of the coming season

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Tanguy Ndombele is unlikely to be part of the first team in the coming season

Football London correspondent for Tottenham Hotspur, while answering a Q & A on the channel has shared some insight on the future of Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Tanguy Ndombele, who is currently on loan at SSC Napoli.

Ndombele joined Napoli on a season-long deal after realizing that he was not in Antonio Conte’s plan for the season. That has been the case for him under almost every boss since his arrival from Lyon in 2019.

It came as a blessing for the Frenchman who is part of one of the most iconic Napoli teams to be ever seen and is inching towards a much-awaited Scudetto. Barring a catastrophic slump, Ndombele will return to north London, albeit temporarily, as a Serie A champion.

However, his current contract with Spurs runs till June 2025, and hence there is not a clear understanding of the midfielder’s future at his parent club.

Asked whether Napoli will buy the 26-year-old Frenchman in the summer window, Gold believes it to be a rather difficult deal to happen with no obligation clause inserted in his loan deal.

“Much depends on the new manager but despite his talent, the past would suggest it might not work for him under a fourth Tottenham boss. Napoli have a 30m euros (£26.3m) option to buy Ndombele, but there is not believe to be any clause that makes that an obligation when they qualify for Champions League football next season in the coming weeks.

That means Spurs will likely have to negotiate with the Italian club or any other interested party at a lower price in the summer if the Frenchman is to leave as expected.”

Ndombele’s arrival at Spurs was met with huge excitement with the midfielder coming off a breakthrough season in Ligue 1 with Olympique Lyonnais.

He was seen as the main creator from the middle of the park who would give the team an extra edge in attack. However, the move did not seem to materialize as expected by all parties involved.

Ndombele’s first tough moment came under Jose Mourinho who did not favor playing the midfielder often due to his low defensive work rate.

While Conte also seemed to believe in a similar level and presented limited opportunities to the player, a new manager could provide a catalyst for the Frenchman to turn his career around in North London.

If a more attack-minded coach is placed at the dugout, there is a possibility that the player could be part of the team in the coming seasons, especially considering the successful season he is having with Napoli.
