Leicester City world-class star has been ruled out due to injury

The latest news on Kelechi Iheanacho, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Caglar Soyuncu, and Danny Ward as the club prepare for their penultimate match of the Premier League campaign

Leicester City are hoping to have two players back in their squad for next Monday’s trip to Newcastle when their Premier League future could be on the line.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall missed the defeat to Liverpool with an ankle issue

Kelechi Iheanacho was scheduled to return to training this week after a groin tear he suffered at Leeds, the Nigerian responding well to treatment and recovering more quickly than first expected.

His return would be a big boost for City, with Iheanacho playing well before his injury. The club ideally need him to pick up where he left off, as they may require victory at Newcastle to stave off relegation if results go against them this weekend.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall is the other player who could come back into the squad, having missed the 3-0 loss to Liverpool with an ankle issue. Manager Dean Smith said that it has been a problem that has troubled the homegrown midfielder since his arrival, and that an injection was required to reduce the pain. If he responds well, he could return in time.

Dewsbury-Hall was one of the three players that had their injury announced on Monday, along with Caglar Soyuncu, who hurt his hamstring in training, and Danny Ward, who has dislocated a finger.

Speaking after Monday’s game, Smith said: “Soyuncu’s (injury) was on Saturday. He felt his hamstring, he’s had a scan and felt a pull in there. It’s not a massive one, but he certainly won’t make the Newcastle game.

“KDH has been struggling with an ankle since we’ve been here. He felt it was too painful to keep going. He’s booked in for an injection (on Tuesday) so hopefully that will sort that out. Wardy’s had a dislocated finger.”

City’s only other absentees are Jannik Vestergaard, who has been ruled out for the season with a calf injury, and James Justin, who is ineligible after being left out of the 25-man Premier League squad.
