Report: Tottenham are now interest in signing a 44-year-old manager

Tottenham Hotspur are thought to be stepping up their pursuit of Feyenoord manager Arne Slot despite the Dutch club’s attempts to tie their coach to a new contract.

The North London side are searching for the next permanent manager after parting ways with Antonio Conte at the end of March.

Since then, Cristian Stellini has come and gone as interim manager, while Ryan Mason is currently Acting Head Coach until the end of the season.

Many names have been linked with the vacancy at Tottenham, but those names appear to be dropping like flies this week.

Julian Nagelsmann was thought to be a hot favourite for the role, but it emerged this week that Spurs were not looking to appoint the 35-year-old (Evening Standard).

Another manager tipped for the job, Xabi Alonso, has today confirmed he will be staying with Bayer Leverkusen until next year, thus ruling himself out of the Spurs role (BILD Leverkusen).

All things considered, it looks like the Lilywhites may well turn their attention to Slot, who has just won the Eredivisie with Feyenoord.

That’s according to the Telegraph, who claim the Dutch club are braced for an approach from Tottenham.

The report claims Spurs are keen to speak to Slot, despite the fact the promising coach has just been offered a new contract by his current club.

It is thought “serious consideration is being given” to Slot for the vacancy.

Slot has reportedly been offered a new £3 million a year deal with Feyenoord, but it is expected he “could earn at least double” that by moving to the Premier League side.

The report adds that things would not be easy for Spurs to get this move in place, however.

The club would be expected to pay £6 million in compensation for Slot to leave Feyenoord, and the coach would be looking for “ultimate control” of the Spurs squad, too.

I really like the work Slot has done at Feyenoord and I think he would be a very good option for Spurs. He’s a great tactician and seems to get the best out of his players with his man
