Joel Matip of Liverpool might stay if one condition is met.
According to Football Insider, Joel Matip could continue at Liverpool provided he is ready to accept a backup role.
Matip is unlikely to reclaim a starting spot in Jurgen Klopp’s side and will only be able to stay at Anfield if he accepts a backup role.
Football Insider informed on Saturday (23 September) that the club is in preliminary talks with the 32-year-old’s representatives regarding a contract extension.
The discussions are not thought to be very far along.
Matip’s current deal expires in 2024, and he is currently free to sign pre-contract agreements with overseas clubs beginning in January.
Liverpool are also close to extending the contract of fellow defender Trent Alexander-Arnold, and have reached an agreement in principle with the right-back, according to Football Insider (22 September).
