REPORT:Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez’s son sent out of youth tournament for Inter Miami as Barcelona thump Herons

Sons of Lionel and Luis, Thiago Messi and Benjamin Suarez, competed for Inter Miami in a youth tournament before being defeated by Barcelona.

FC Barcelona defeated Inter Miami’s U-12 squad, which includes the sons of Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez, in a La Liga youth tournament held in Florida on Friday.

The Catalan team defeated the Herons and Thiago Messi and Benjamin Suarez in the La Liga Futures event by scoring four goals in a 24-minute period.

The Herons’ campaign got off to a great start on Friday, as they defeated Real Sociedad 0-0 in the group stage. But they had to give up fewer than two goals against Barcelona in order to move on.

The South Florida side abruptly left the tournament early at ESPN’s Wide World of Sports in Orlando. The competition provided the young football players with a stage on which to compete, drawing 20 U12 teams from around the globe to the campus.

THOUGHTS FROM TOURNAMENT DIRECTORS

“The initiative’s two primary goals are to support football’s positive principles and to promote grassroots football. The competition brings together the top youth teams in the world each year, according to a press release from LaLiga.

In June, the two young football players will watch their well-known dads play in the Copa America: Messi, who plays for Argentina, and Suarez, who plays for Uruguay.
