Liverpool could be without four key players for their trip to Elland Road

Liverpool could be without four key players for their trip to Elland Road to face Leeds United next month.

That’s according to a report from The Daily Mirror, who say that quarantine regulations in the wake of international call-ups could play havoc with Jurgen Klopp’s options for that game.

Leeds are scheduled to host Liverpool on Sunday 12th September, in what will be the first game for both teams after the first international break of the season.

Brazil have already called up goalkeeper Alisson Becker, midfielder Fabinho and attacker Roberto Firmino for their games in that period, while Mo Salah is expected to be named in Egypt’s squad for the same phase of matches.

That could now cause major problems for Liverpool for the Leeds game, with this latest update noting that quarantine regulations mean the quartet would still be in isolation by the time the Merseyside club travel to Elland Road, if Government guidelines around those countries do not change before then.

FIFA introduced new regulations earlier this year that prevented clubs from blocking their player international call-ups, meaning Liverpool will not be able to stop the quartet from travelling to be with their national teams.

Brazil’s final game of the international break is also scheduled to take place little more than 48 hours before the match at Elland Road.

As a result, even without quarantine regulations, Liverpool would face a race against time to get those players back for the match with Leeds.

This could present something of an opportunity for Leeds when it comes to this game.

It should be noted that Leeds themselves may not be unaffected by this, with Raphinha having also been called up by Brazil for this set of games.

However, it does seem as though the situation will have a greater impact on Liverpool, and they are four vital players that they would be missing for a clash at Elland Road.

Leeds showed last season they can cause Liverpool problems, and when you add in the home support they would be getting for this game, it seems Jurgen Klopp’s side will be facing a very tricky afternoon if things do not change with regards to quarantine regulations in the next few weeks.
