UNITED PLAYER CAN PERFORM THE SAME ROLE GREALISH DOES AT CITY SAY BY IAN WRIGHT

Ian Wright backed Jadon Sancho to add an extra element of ingenuity to Manchester United, much like Jack Grealish will contribute across the city.

Speaking on Premier League Productions, Wright predicted Sancho would provide United with more resourcefulness down the right channel.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s attack looked terrifying against Leeds United on the opening weekend.

With Paul Pogba pulling the strings, Bruno Fernandes firing in the goals and Mason Greenwood lighting up Old Trafford, the Red Devils forward force was frightening.

Their 5-1 demolition of Leeds was achieved without Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial from the start and Sancho, who came on as a second-half substitute.

The England international will only increase his side’s offensive output, with his Borussia Dortmund numbers there for all to witness.

He could make his full league debut this Saturday away to Southampton.

Wright explained how the 21-year-old will improve United’s already awesome front line.

“The signing of someone like Sancho, like Grealish at City, he gives you a different problem when he gets on the ball if deeps are going to stay deep,” said the former Arsenal striker.

“He will take players out of the game with skills. I think this is one of the biggest factors for United this season.

“The right-hand side; I’d love to see the percentages of goals created from this side. I’m sure it would be a lot, lot further behind than the left.

“Jadon Sancho will bring that right up. He will create when people do that low block.

“I think that he is somebody who will take players out of the game with skills going into the box, more free-kicks, more opportunities to get the ball in the box for people like Harry Maguire and (Raphael) Varane.”

It is true that a majority of United’s best work last year came down the left flank.

Shaw struck up a good relationship with whoever featured in front of him, whether that was Pogba or Rashford.

Down the opposite channel is where the shine was lost slightly.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka was never able to form a solid partnership, as Solskjaer failed to fall upon a consistent right attacker.

Daniel James, Rashford and Greenwood all played there at some stage in 2020/21.

Sancho should be the number one choice for the foreseeable future, allowing Wan-Bissaka to grow more confident in his offensive abilities.
