Manchester United are still looking at midfield options before the end of the window

Manchester United are still looking at midfield options before the end of the window, according to reports.

Manchester United have reportedly accelerated their interest in Rennes teenage star Eduardo Camavinga. United have been linked with signing a number of midfielders before the end of the summer transfer window. But Express Sport understands Atletico Madrid star Saul Niguez will not be moving to Old Trafford.

Camavinga, 18, has entered the final year of his contract at Rennes. Paris Saint-Germain are also interested in the France international.

Speaking on Reach PLC’s Transfer Window podcast, Duncan Castles says United have made moves in recent days for Camavinga. But they have also made contact over Monaco star Aurelien Tchouameni.

Tchouameni’s Monaco side crashed out of the Champions League at the play-off stage on Wednesday after a 3-2 defeat to Shakhtar Donetsk.

“United are looking at other individuals [to Saul],” Castles said.

“I’m told that they have accelerated their interest in Eduardo Camavinga over the last week.

“As we told you a couple of weeks ago, they have had contact with Aurelien Tchouameni’s representatives at AS Monaco to find out what it would cost to bring him there.”

United have made two major signings so far this summer, spending around £114million on Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane.

Ahead of Sunday’s 1-1 draw at Southampton, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wasn’t giving too much away about his plans for the remainder of the window.

“Anything from now is a bonus,” said the 48-year-old.

“I have to say that with the two signings we’ve got, we’ve strengthened where we wanted to strengthen.

“Let’s see what happens. You never know in football. Anything can happen, ins and outs.”

Since then, Solskjaer has stated he expects a quiet last few days of the transfer season.

“I don’t think much is going to happen,” said the Norwegian.

“If something happens it is a bonus, of course.

“You never know what happens in the world of football. There’s about a week left.

“We have had a very good window. We have brought in two great football players. Raphael will lift us a lot, and Jadon will only get better and better.

“We are happy with what we have done, and then we work in the field to become a better team.

“We need to get in better shape, there is no doubt about that. There are many who have played one and a half games. It’s not much. We are laying the foundation now, then it is a long season.”
