LIVERPOOL FANS REACTION TO KEY MAN POSSIBLY LEAVING

Melissa Reddy has claimed that Liverpool fans feel as though it is ‘the end of the world’ after rumours emerged that Michael Edwards could leave the club, as she told BBC Radio 5 Live Sport.

The senior journalist for the Independent and Liverpool fan praised Edwards for the job he has done on Merseyside and how ‘important’ he has been for the club.

But it seems as though Liverpool’s Sporting Director will depart next summer and has told his bosses just that, according to the Daily Mail.

If that’s the case then it would be a blow for the Reds and it will be interesting to see how they react to his possible departure.

Given that Liverpool didn’t do much business this summer, Reddy brilliantly shared the mixed set of emotions fans have been going through at Anfield after this news about Edwards broke.

“There is a remarkable position where Liverpool fans, a lot of them, constantly slate the club for inactivity in the market,” laughed Reddy.

“Yet, it’s like the end of the world when they have heard this news. You are like ‘hang on, you are constantly slating them for not doing enough business or the right business’.

“But the man in charge of that, he might go and now it’s like everything is set on fire. Make up your minds. Both things cannot be true.

“I don’t think I can stress or emphasise how important he is because Liverpool have basically powered by three pillars. They have a very good system behind the scenes, which he has put in place.”

The job Edwards has done is pretty remarkable and there’s no doubt that if he does depart then he will leave a huge void at Anfield.

Unlike another certain Premier League club, Klopp doesn’t have the luxury to spend hundreds of millions just on full-backs.

Liverpool have had to be pretty thorough in their transfer work over the years.

From signing someone like Andy Robertson for next to nothing and selling Dominic Solanke for more than double, Edwards has been the brains behind it all.
