Liverpool staff have reportedly been left ‘impressed’ by midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain during training.

The 28-year-old enjoyed a first full pre-season for many seasons having been badly hampered by injury since arriving on Merseyside.

Despite being linked with a departure over the summer, the attack-minded midfielder has forced a way back into Jurgen Klopp’s plans.

That’s according to a report from the Liverpool Echo, as cited by Anfield Watch on Twitter, claiming both Oxlade-Chamberlain and Takumi Minamino are back in contention at Anfield.

The ex-Arsenal man was named in the starting lineup for the opening day victory over Norwich City but has since missed the clash with Burnley and was left on the bench against Chelsea. Meanwhile, Minamino has remained an onlooker for the entire Premier League campaign so far.

The fact both attacking options remained unused as the Reds went in search of a second-half goal on Saturday seemed pretty damning.

Whilst there can be little doubt there will come a time throughout a long season for either Oxlade-Chamberlain or Minamino to flourish, it remains highly unlikely a regular starting berth is on the horizon.

Opportunities such as the upcoming Carabao Cup tie with Norwich City will be imperative for both men to take full advantage of and force their way further up the pecking order.
