LIVERPOOL FANS REACT TO FLORIAN NEUHAUS RUMOUR

Wijnaldum left Anfield at the end of his contract, making a move to Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer.

The Dutchman leaves a big hole at Anfield, but no signing came in to replace him with Jurgen Klopp now hoping Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Curtis Jones can step up.

Liverpool were linked with midfielders over the summer, and one of them was Gladbach star Neuhaus.

Bild’s Christian Falk told The Bayern Insider podcast over the summer that Neuhaus wanted a move to Liverpool this summer.

Sport1’s Florian Plettenberg added that contact had been made by Liverpool, but rumours suggesting the player likened to Thomas Muller died down.

Now, The Mirror have claimed that Liverpool even had the chance to sign Neuhaus for £21million – £13million less than his release clause – because Gladbach wanted to raise cash.

That does seem a little strange, but the report claimed that Liverpool had decided not to make a move even at such a cheap price.

Liverpool fans have been taking to Twitter to react to these somewhat dubious claims, believing that Neuhaus is ‘class’ and should have been signed.

Others think not signing Neuhaus will come back to haunt Liverpool, and are blaming owners FSG for not signing him.
