Chelsea travel to London rivals Tottenham this Sunday in the Premier League – and some Blues fans on Twitter claim they desperately want to see Timo Werner back in the XI.

Werner, 25, has arguably been the biggest victim from Romelu Lukaku’s summer arrival at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has so much competition within his squad that it makes his team selection hard each week. As a result, Werner has failed to start any of the previous four games across all competitions. He was even an unused substitute in the midweek Champions League group stage win over Zenit St Petersburg.

The German attacker was a regular in the XI last season, but it’s harder to get into the side now with frontman Lukaku starting down the middle. A selection of Chelsea supporters on social media are convinced that Werner deserves a chance on Sunday when the team make a short trip across London to face Spurs.

The speedster actually scored against the weekend opponents last season when the teams met in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup. However, he failed to net in either Premier League meeting.

It feels like he needs to make the most of any minutes he gets on the pitch, so is in desperate need of rediscovering the clinical goalscoring touch he once had at RB Leipzig.

It’s worth noting that he’s got the quality to be a great provider, which is why bringing him into the XI may help teammates.
