Fabinho’s comments on Curtis Jones

Fabinho’s comments on Curtis Jones should give Jurgen Klopp ideas on Liverpool midfield

Young midfielder Curtis Jones starred for Liverpool in their midweek Champions League thrashing of FC Porto and teammate Fabinho has hinted why he is the ideal midfield partner

Liverpool midfielder Fabinho has heaped praise on teammate Curtis Jones following his superb performance against FC Porto in the Champions League.

The Reds ran out comprehensive 5-1 victors in Portugal on Tuesday night with Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino both grabbing braces while Sadio Mane also found the net.

Yet central midfielder Jones was one of the standout performers for Jurgen Klopp’s side on the evening and staked his claim for being a key starter throughout the season.

It followed on from the Reds youth graduate netting a superb goal in Saturday’s thrilling draw at Brentford with his level earning widespread praise.

Fabinho told Liverpool’s official site when asked about Jones: “Yes, (he was involved in) every goal!

“He’s a really good player.

“He needed this, to play every three days, it’s important for him for his rhythm.

“Physically, he’s really good and then with the ball, we know if we give the ball to him he will turn, he will create something special because he’s a really talented player.

“So, I’m happy for him with his performance and I hope he will keep playing well like this.”

The Brazilian midfielder went on to praise the nature of Liverpool’s victory and underlined the importance of moving to the top of their group, alongside their strong Premier League start.

He added: “It was really great, the intensity we played. The players who came on as well kept the rhythm, the intensity, the quality. So that was really important for us, for our players to score tonight.

“We scored five, we could [have] kept the clean sheet as well, but Porto have good players as well and Porto have a good team. It was a really important win to keep this rhythm.

“It’s really important to be top of this group – a really hard group – and top of the league as well. We don’t have easy games and we have to always be ready to play and play in our way and keep the intensity and keep the quality.

“We played a hard game against Brentford last weekend and we played a hard game here tonight, but we put a high intensity – that was really important for us. We just have to keep playing in our way and hopefully we will keep on winning games.”

Next up for Klopp’s side is a crunch Premier League match against Manchester City this weekend at Anfield.
