Expected XI vs Everton as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer makes two changes

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could change the look of his team with just two changes against Everton on Saturday.

Manchester United host Everton at Old Trafford in their final Premier League game before the international break on Saturday. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could make two changes to the side that returned to winning ways against Villarreal in the Champions League in midweek.

United are in for a challenging game this weekend, with Everton level on points after six games. However, Rafa Benitez could still be without crucial attacking duo Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

The Red Devils must bounce back after defeat against Aston Villa last time out in the league.

Express Sport looks at how United are expected to line up against the Toffees, where a win would make either side Premier League leaders.

Goalkeeper: De Gea

David de Gea prevented Villarreal from piling on the misery at Old Trafford on Wednesday, making several vital saves to keep the score 0-0 in the first half and deny the Spaniards a late winner.

He looks back to his best and is firmly Solskjaer’s first-choice goalkeeper, with Dean Henderson having to settle for a back-up role.

Defence: Wan-Bissaka, Varane, Lindelof, Telles

In midweek, Diogo Dalot endured a difficult night against Villarreal’s tricky winger Arnaut Danjuma, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s absence through suspension felt.

But the Englishman will be well-rested for the weekend, where there should be a fascinating battle between him and Demarai Gray on display.

Raphael Varane and Victor Lindelof should start again, with club captain Harry Maguire ruled out for a few weeks.

Luke Shaw might not be ready to return through illness, meaning Alex Telles will get another opportunity to impress at left-back.

Midfield: McTominay, Fred, Fernandes

Solskjaer spoke of his admiration for the midfield partnership of Scott McTominay and Fred after the Villa defeat last weekend.

With Fred only playing for a few minutes on Wednesday, he’ll be fit and firing alongside McTominay.

Bruno Fernandes will likely wear the captain’s armband again ahead of the duo, but will he be on penalty duty?

Attack: Greenwood, Pogba, Ronaldo

Solskjaer’s wealth of attacking options always makes it difficult to predict how he’s going to set his players up, but there should be no surprises against Everton.

Mason Greenwood should keep his place despite a slight drop in form in recent weeks, but Jadon Sancho’s inclusion wouldn’t be a shock.

Paul Pogba will likely move into left-wing or take McTominay’s place alongside Fred, with both Sancho and Greenwood keeping their spots.

Cristiano Ronaldo will look to add to the five goals he’s scored in his first five goals back at United, but Edinson Cavani is also pushing for a start.

It’s not a bad dilemma for Solskjaer to have.
