Ramsdale gives Arteta what Leno never did says Campbell

Daily Arsenal Round-Up: Ramsdale gives Arteta what Leno never did says Campbell, Arsenal set to lose out on millions after distractions from Saliba deal, former Gunners speaks on how he tried to leave at every opportunity and Sterling linked with Emirates move

Welcome to our football.london The Arsenal Way daily news round-up. Maybe not the first, we’ve definitely done transfer round-ups before, and European round-ups, so I guess in some ways it’s not that new at all. Anyway, we thought we would enter the world of football in a broad and roundabout manner for you and have some fun with some of the stories and captions doing the daily rounds.

‘Ramsdale given Arteta what Leno hasn’t’

Aaron Ramsdale has kept three clean sheets from his first four Premier League starts for Arsenal, remaining undefeated since overruling Bernd Leno between the sticks.

Mikel Arteta’s £25 million shot-stopper from Sheffield United has been hailed as the difference-maker by former Gunner Kevin Campbell in light of Leno’s woes.

The Germany international conceded nine goals across his and the north London side’s opening three Premier League games before Ramsdale swooped in to extinguish the blazing fire.

Campbell spoke about how the 23-year-old Englishman has surprised him and how he has offered a unique asset that Leno hasn’t been able to.

“This is the beautiful thing about football,” Campbell told Football Insider. “At first, I didn’t pass judgment because I did not know enough about him.

“Instead, I went away and did my research. Others made preconceptions about him because he was relegated with a couple of clubs.

“There was a preconceived idea that he was not good enough for Arsenal but let me tell you, that young man has impressed me as much as anyone they’ve signed. I think he’s been incredible. Not just his saves and his distribution but the way he commands his box.

Saliba steals limelight from other Arsenal loanee who is shining

Konstantinos Mavropanos has enjoyed a fruitful loan spell so far at Stuttgart from Arsenal by directly contributing to three goals across seven Bundesliga clashes, shining in the shadows of fellow loanee William Saliba.

However, despite the 23-year-old centre-back’s promising displays for the German side, the Gunners are set to lose out on millions having included a shrewd option-to-buy clause in the Greece international’s loan clause.

Arteta shouldn’t get excited about the prospect of seeing Mavropanos return to London Colney after Stuttgart sporting director Sven Mislintat gave a massive hint into the defender’s future.

“We have a purchase commitment of €3m if we are relegated and a free purchase option if we do not reach our team goal,” he said.

“In both cases we would have the chance to take him. I think it is relatively clear what happens to him.”

Former Gunner who tried to leave at every opportunity

Former Arsenal goalkeeper Matt Macey has revealed that he wanted to leave the north London side at every possible opportunity.

The 27-year-old shot-stopper had arrived at London Colney in 2013 having joined from Bristol Rovers but wouldn’t make a single Premier League appearance for the Gunners.

Speaking to The Daily Record, Macey spoke on how he had tried to leave the north Londoners at every chance he had but was only able to do so in January 2021, almost nine years after initially joining.

“I get asked a lot if I could have left Arsenal earlier,” he said. “It’s not always as easy as that at a big club. There are responsibilities for the manager to protect, in terms of players picking up injuries at the top level.

“One thing I’d say is that every summer, I always looked to go and play football, whether it was on loan or to leave Arsenal. For whatever reason it didn’t happen. I’m just lucky that when I did decide to make the jump, it worked out really well at Hibs.”

Arteta eyeing Sterling raid from City

Arsenal are planning another move for Manchester City’s Raheem Sterling, according to the Express, in light of the England international falling out of favour under Pep Guardiola.

Sterling, who is valued at £81 million by Transfermarkt, has played just 461 minutes across ten games this season for City after Jack Grealish and Phil Foden have been handed starting roles by the Spaniard.

Arteta worked closely with Sterling at the Etihad following his tenure as Guardiola’s assistant and the pair have an excellent relationship, according to the Daily Star, probing as to whether the Arsenal boss’ pull can prise one of the league’s best to the Emirates.
