Manchester City Woemn travel to neighbours and rivals Manchester United on Sunday, as they look to end a run of three successive WSL defeats.

The blues have lost to Spurs, Arsenal and West Ham recently, with two of those defeats coming at home, and they face a United side that are flying high in the league, and have swapped places with the blue girls.

Form

United go into the match in fourth place in the WSL table, five places and six points ahead of City. The have won three of their four matches so far this season, with their only defeat coming at the hands of a ruthless Chelsea side, who hammered the reds 6-1 at Leigh Sports Village.

The reds got back to winning ways at the weekend as the won 2-0 at Birmingham City, and are just three points off the top of the table. Chelsea aside, United’s defence has been pretty solid, but that heavy defeat ses them on a goal difference of +1, having scored eight and conceded seven.

Danger players

Ella Toone is United’s top scorer with two goals. Martha Thomas and Alessia Russo both have one each. Toone has attempted eight shots on goal from four games, giving her a goal conversion rate of 25%.

Toone is also the top provider for United with three assists. She has created six chances from four matches, and from 169 attempted passes, she has completed 109, giving her a pass accuracy of 64%.

A bigger danger comes from Hannah Blundell. She has two assists from four games and has created four chances. From 201 attempted passes, she has completed 163, giving her a pass accuracy of 81%.

Who’s the boss?

Marc Skinner is United’s head coach. He took over from Casey Stone, who resigned during the summer. Having won three of his four matches in charge, it’s no surprise that his win ratio is high at 75%.

Last time out

The blues last travelled across town for a WSL match in November 2020. City were 2-0 up by have time, thanks to goals from Chloe Kelly and Laura Coombs. However, a second half fight-back from United saw them score two themselves, and rescue a point.
