Jules Kounde looked like he was on the verge of joining Chelsea towards the end of the transfer window this summer, but for whatever reason, in the end the deal collapsed.
We don’t expect that to be the end of the story though, especially given the contract situation of 4 defenders at the club. The Daily Mirror write that Kounde remains a top target, and that Chelsea will likely make further moves to sign him next summer.
Thiago Silva, Cesar Azpilicueta, Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger are all out of contract within the next 18 months, and it will be a struggle to keep them all.
Almost certainly at least one of them will go, and that means a space for Kounde to join. He apparently didn’t take kindly to his club’s decision to turn down Chelsea’s offer last summer, and next time he may push harder to ensure a move happens.
