Noel Whelan has claimed Man United star Donny van de Beek “needs to get out now” for the good of his career.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the Red Devils could be persuaded to let the 24-year-old go permanently to “get him off the wage bill”.

As reported by MailOnline (October 29th), Van de Beek has held discussions with Everton and Wolves ahead of a potential loan switch in January.

The report also claims the Netherlands international was persuaded by his Man United teammates to change agents in order to force a move away from the club.

Whelan insisted the midfielder has looked “average at best” during his limited opportunities in the Man United XI.

“It’s looking very bleak for him at the minute,” he told Football Insider.

“I think he needs to get out now because he’s not getting an opportunity at all.

“When he has come on, he’s been average at best – we’ve not seen the player that Man United bought and other teams wanted.

“I don’t think they’ve gotten the best out of him, at all.

“Getting him out of the club and letting him progress his career is probably in the interest of both parties.

“The only use he has at the moment is for cup competitionsThat isn’t enough for a player at his age.

I think United could be willing to let him go on a permanent deal to get him off the wage bill.”

Van de Beek has made just four league starts since his reported £35.7million move from Ajax.

Ali Dursun now represents the midfielder after he dispensed with former agent Guido Albers.
