Liverpool should sign sparkling 48k a week 22-year-old; perfect for Klopp

Liverpool need to sign a new forward and Moussa Diaby would be the perfect option for Jurgen Klopp.

The Frenchman has been in fine form for Bayer Leverkusen and was very scary for Real Betis’s defence in the Europa League.

On Thursday evening, he scored two and assisted two to help his side to a 4-0 win over Betis. But it was his dribbling, close control and positioning that most impressed me.

Liverpool need attacking depth and, in particular, need quality cover for Mohamed Salah for when he heads off to AFCON or if he suffers an injury before or after the continental tournament.

Diaby, a left-footed winger capable of playing as a no.10, ticks all the boxes for what Liverpool should be shopping for in January and failing that, in the summer transfer window.

It was actually against Brighton and West Ham that I felt having a central play-maker could have been the defining difference for the Reds. But, with Trent Alexander-Arnold the only player capable of providing the spark needed, he was pushed further up the pitch.

Diaby was utterly sensational against Betis and popped up all over the pitch to devastating effect. His four-goal contributions grabbed the headlines but his ability to control the ball into a position where he is immediately able to play a pass, take a shot or burst past his marker was too much to handle for his La Liga opposition.

He strikes me as a blend of Mane and Riyad Mahrez, with his explosive pace and technical dribbling combining to make a very unique player capable of adding a lot of value to Liverpool.

The 22-year-old is reportedly only on £48,000 per week and so FSG could certainly attract him to Anfield with the offer of a doubled salary which might make him more willing to swap a Leverkusen starting role for a place on the Liverpool bench.
