Barcelona are focussing on renewals following the appointment of Xavi Hernandez as the new manager. Gavi and Ousmane Dembele are the two priority renewals at the moment.

Though the former’s renewal does not pose any concerns, the same cannot be said about Dembele. The French striker is in the final months of his contract but has shown no interest to sign a new deal.

The club are desperate to ensure the renewal is made possible for the winger. For starters, he is one of Barcelona’s record signings, and the club can not afford to lose him on a free transfer.

Moreover, Xavi Hernandez has publicly spoken about his admiration of the player. The Spaniard hopes to make Dembele a vital part of his setup and went as far as to say that he could be one of the best players in his position.

Dembele’s talent has not gone unnoticed as multiple Premier League sides are said to be looking to sign the young winger including Manchester City, Manchester United, and Newcastle United, according to El Nacional. These sides could offer him as much as €12 million a season with an additional €20 million as a signing bonus.

Barcelona’s financial situation does not permit them such luxury in terms of renewals. That said, the club have presented Dembele with an offer consisting of a base salary that could increase based on the number of games played.

However, the wage offered is lower than that on the player’s previous contract. It is not surprising, as many of the club’s players have accepted wage cuts in the past few months.

Barcelona propose a base salary of €7-7.5 million per season but the player is vacillating because he has better proposals on the table.

Earlier today, it was reported that the World Cup winner turned up late to training and was fined by Xavi.

Dembele is free to negotiate with new clubs from the first of January. It remains to be seen if he chooses money over a chance to succeed at Barcelona.
