Man City slap €50 million asking price on Barcelona target

Barcelona’s chase for Raheem Sterling continues to develop at a rapid pace. Every passing day brings in a new piece to the puzzle, and today is no different.

According to reports from Mundo Deportivo, Manchester City would be ready to accept a loan offer for the Barcelona target, provided a mandatory purchase clause is included.

Moreover, the Blues are comfortable only with a financial figure of around €50 million attached with the clause.

A loan move would be the best scenario for the Catalans, too, given their precarious financial situation. However, the valuation on the purchase clause is where Barcelona could differ in opinion.

Xavi’s side need urgent boosts in the attack. The repeated injuries to Ousmane Dembele have not helped the clubs case. Moreover, Ansu Fati is still treading a tightrope. Clearly, the team requires the addition of players with experience.

The club has explored other options in Dani Olmo, Riyad Mahrez and more recently, Christian Pulisic, Callum Hudson Odoi and Hakim Ziyech. While all of them promise to be monsters on their day, Sterling is seen as the most viable option for the club.

The most significant factor favouring the arrival of the winger is his dissatisfaction at Manchester City. Given his progressively reducing role at Etihad, he is looking for a change in scenery.

The player has come out in public to announce his intention to try a new league, something he could accomplish at Barcelona in La Liga.

Joan Laporta said earlier this week that the club were looking to make three signings in the January window. As it stands, Sterling is one of the prime candidates.
