What Riyad Mahrez said to Poveda after his injury blow

Riyad Mahrez sends message to Poveda after injury blow

Manchester City ace Riyad Mahrez has sent a message to Leeds United forward Ian Poveda after he picked up an injury on Saturday.

The 21-year-old was stretchered off after hurting his ankle during Blackburn Rovers’ 1-1 draw against Bristol City, and he could see his campaign curtailed by injury.

Mahrez has extended his warm support to his former teammate at the Etihad Stadium on his personal Instagram story, wishing him a speedy recovery.

He said: “Speedy recovery, my guy.”

Elland Road return?

Poveda joined the Championship side on a season-long loan at the start of the season and was starting to hit the ground running before injury struck.

He was taken straight to the hospital, and while Rovers are now waiting for the result of a scan, they fear the Leeds man might have suffered ankle ligament damage.

That would be a massive blow as it could potentially rule him out of action for months, and he could be forced to return to Thorp Arch to start his rehabilitation and recovery.

Poveda has made eight league appearances for Blackburn to date, scoring once and assisting twice, and they could do with his quality as they eye promotion.

With first-team opportunities hard to come by at Elland Road, he was sent on loan to the Blues and Whites, and injury has struck at the wrong time.

Leeds will be hoping for the best when the scan results come out, and with his contract not expiring until the summer of 2024, he still very much has a future at Yorkshire.

In other Leeds United news, a major update on Whites January bid to sign attacker has been provided, with pen-to-paper imminent.
