What Kylian Mbappe said about Messi and Neymar treatment at PSG

Kylian Mbappe is still yet to pen a new contract at Paris St-Germain with just seven months left on his current deal – and Emmanuel Petit believes the youngster feels he is undervalued at the club

Kylian Mbappe is growing “frustrated and tired” with life at Paris St-Germain because he doesn’t feel he gets the same recognition as Lionel Messi and Neymar, according to Emmanuel Petit.

Mbappe, 22, only has seven months remaining on his current PSG contract, meaning he will soon be able to start negotiating a free move abroad to go through upon the expiry of that deal next summer.

The France World Cup winner, who has registered eight goals and 12 assists in 17 appearances this season, is said to have rejected various extension offers from Parc des Princes officials amid his desire to move on.

Reports have long suggested he is ready to leave the French giants and start fresh elsewhere, with Real Madrid said to be his preferred destination.

It is somewhat surprising that Mbappe still wants to leave PSG following the marquee signing of Messi, who joined on a free transfer from Barcelona to much fanfare over the summer.

However, Petit believes he has not taken well to the Argentine superstar’s arrival in Paris, claiming he feels undervalued alongside him and fellow attacker Neymar.

“I think [Mbappe’s] been frustrated and tired by the situation at PSG over the past year,” the former France midfielder told Gambling.com.

“We’ve seen some trouble on the pitch between players both at Paris Saint-Germain and the national team, which was reflective in his game and his mood.

“Maybe he’s interested in Real Madrid because he’s tired of what’s happening here in France. I think he gets the feeling sometimes that he doesn’t get the same recognition as players like [Lionel] Messi or Neymar.

“Messi, before he came here, he was the king of Barcelona. But for me, the king of Paris Saint-Germain is Mbappe, not Messi or Neymar. With all the respect I have for Messi, Mbappe is still number one.”

Petit added: “For me he’s been the best player at PSG since the beginning of the season and he still has a bit of time left on his contract.

“At the beginning of the season he was being booed at every single stadium in France because of the stuff about what the press were saying about his transfer to Real Madrid and that he doesn’t want to sign a new deal with Paris Saint-Germain.

“Yet from the first minute of the season he’s been their best player, he’s taken on that responsibility and shown real character.

“Honestly, what he’s doing at his age leaves me speechless. The next few months will be crucial for his career and I’m expecting him to reach an even higher level.”
